After 10th class

After 12th class

The student must be passed from PCM in 12th standard so that he/she can take admission into an Engineering College and proceed further for higher studies.

Navigating Officer

Academic and Health Requirements

If a candidate wants to work as a Navigating officer it needs to have the following qualification, either be a XIIth science student less than 22 years with PCM marks more than 60% marks or a BSc graduate with more than 60% in either PCM or Electronics but with Physics as a subject in any one year and the age should be less than 25 years. In both conditions, a student must have at least more than 50% marks in English in the XIIth standard. Candidate must have good mental and physical health and should meet the health test before going to ship.

Pre Sea Training

Before the cadet is sent to board the ship, the cadet needs to undergo a 1-year pre-sea training in any Maritime training institute for learning all the basics of Marines. The tuition fee of the pre-sea training has to be paid by the candidate.

Duties of Navigating Officer

The job of Navigating officer is quite challenging because the officer needs to look up in all the essential areas whether in case of a storm or any other problem. Here are the few duties which the officer delivers

  • Using a range of satellite and radar systems and equipment to navigate the ship
  • Updating navigational charts, keeping them updated, making passage plans
  • Tracing the weather and reports of navigation and taking proper action
  • Taking care of the safe loading, storage, and unloading of the cargo at the port
  • Supervision of the deck crew
  • Maintenance of the ship’s hull, cargo gears, and other accommodations
  • Directing line handlers, cargo watches, directing anchor detail and training the life-saving appliances
  • Supervising for the operation and maintenance of deck machinery, e.g. winches and cranes, etc.
  • Managing ship communication systems
  • Monitoring and maintaining safety, fire-fighting and life-saving equipment
  • Overseeing the ship to ensure that the highest levels of health and safety are maintained
  • Maintaining legal and operational records, e.g. the ship’s log
  • Keeping updated with developments in maritime legal, commercial, and political matters.

Marine Engineer

Academic and Health Requirements

To go on board as an Engineer it needs to be B.E. in Mechanical Engineering with at least 60% marks and the age should be less than 28 years and must have more than 50% marks in English in its XIIth class irrespective of their Boards.

Pre Sea Training

Before a Trainee, Marine Engineer is sent on a ship it has to undergo a 1-year pre-sea

training in a Maritime training institute. The tuition fee for such training has to be submitted by the candidate.

Duties of Marine Engineer

  • Commanding the other crew which are in the operation and maintenance of the machinery and other electrical equipment
  • Managing the power, fueling and distribution systems
  • Repairing and upgrading systems and equipment, e.g. air compressors, pumps, and sewage plants
